I graduated from James Madison University in 2007 with a Bachelor of Music Degree concentrating in Music Education and a Music Minor in Jazz Studies. In 2011, I went back to school and earned my Master of Education, specializing in Curriculum and Instruction from Averett University. While at JMU, I performed with the Marching Royal Dukes, University Band, Concert Band, Symphonic Band, Wind Ensemble, Opera Orchestra, Trombone Choir, Jazz Band, Jazz Ensemble, and various Jazz combo groups. I also performed as a freelance trombonist with local performing groups such as Live Arts, UVa Drama, and the Heritage Repertory Theater.
I became the Band Director at Wilson Middle School (Fishersville, VA) in 2008 where my ensembles consistently earned high ratings and remarks at various Concert Band Assessments and performances. I served as the Team Leader for the Exploratory team, held chairs in the Wellness Committee, Faculty Advisory Committee, and Crisis Response Team. I supervised Student Teachers from James Madison University and Bridgewater College, mentored students throughout Augusta County in the mentorship program for future teachers, worked co-curricularly with other teachers to reinforce concepts both musically and academically, and volunteered with after school activities throughout the school year. I held membership with the Virginia Band and Orchestra Directors' Association (VBODA) and National Association for Music Education (NAfME). Various leadership positions within these organizations include All-District Band Audition Host, Concert Band Assessment Event Host, and Concert Band Assessment Event Chair.
I am proud to say that I am a founding member of the Valley Wind Ensemble (Harrisonburg, VA). Formed in 2015, we are a collection of semi-professional adult community musicians that rehearse and perform throughout the year. In 2017, I joined Mr. Jefferson's Bones trombone quartet and worked to promote the love of all things trombone with the yearly Tromblowin' festival at JMU.
By 2021, I decided to pursue another passion of mine - technology! Shortly after earning my CompTIA A+ certification, I landed a job with Prince William County Public Schools as a Technology Support Specialist (TSSPEC) at Patriot High School. In this position, I have been able to positively influence and support the staff with technology by means of providing, preparing, configuring, managing, and implementing various technology standards into their classrooms. My love for connecting with and making meaningful, lasting relationships in the field of education is very alive and I miss having those "a-ha" moments with others. My goal is simple: to positively and passionately bring joy, curiosity, and discovery to others through the means of technology. In 2022, I became the Instructional Technology Coach (ITC) at Patriot High School. This allowed me a chance to move back into the educational side of technology while continuing my technical support with devices in the building.
Being able to support teachers brings me great joy. I am challenged daily to use my creativity in finding solutions for educators and able to move around the building to be a part of the multiple small groups, classrooms, specialty programs, and administration. Please enjoy my portfolio that showcases the many talents I have to offer Prince William County. I encourage you to reach out for collaboration and connection as we move forward in a digital world.
